These are quick checks at home or on the forecourt, not an inspection; a workshop check and your service schedule still apply.

Law & licensing

ProposedEffective: Not yet announced

AARTO phase 3: October talk, no gazette

The Department of Transport has spoken of extending AARTO to the remaining municipalities around October, but no proclamation has been published, and the Western Cape remains excluded while the City’s dispute runs. Nothing changes for Cape Town drivers until a proclamation names the province.

In forceEffective: 12 March 2026

E-hailing rules now carry impoundment

Since March, e-hailing drivers need a provincial operating licence, vehicle branding and a panic button, and the platforms must be registered. Officers can impound an unlicensed e-hailing vehicle, so look for the branding before you get in.

06

Fuel & costs

With Brent crude around $105, October’s increase keeps growing: petrol close to R2.80 a litre and diesel near R3 on the data so far. That would put coastal 95 near R29.

Where do I find the right pressure for my car?

On the sticker inside the driver’s door or fuel flap, or in your owner’s manual. The number on the tyre itself is the maximum, not the target.
